Brief Description:  Relocate Rudder Pedals

1412 - 1724

After awhile sitting in the -10 moving the controls around, something started "nagging" me, Something about the position of the stick, pedals, and instrument panel just didn't sit right.

Then I came across a post on a new flying -10 on VAF. He listed some of the things he would have done differently, and one of them was to use the AFT mounting holes for the rudder pedals. He said he was 6'1" and with the seat positioned to be comfortable on the rudder pedals, his knees were almost against the panel, and the stick was difficult to position all the way aft. This seemed to be EXACTLY what was "nagging" me.

Then a TON of others chimed in and said the same thing! Kind of makes sense...Van is quite tall...

After a little more playing around with positioning, I decided to relocate my rudder pedals to the aft mounting position.

Remove rudder bushing block bolts.

Remove bushing block mount bolts.

Remove rudder cable links.

Install bushing block mounts in aft position, torque bolts.

Install outboard bushing blocks, torque bolts.

Clamp center bushing block to mount.

Match drill center block mount holes using #12 drill.

Install center bushing with spacer washers and torque bolts.

Fabricate new rudder cable links fro 050 high strength stainless steel, as before, with rudder clamped in neutral position.

Install cable links using hardware specified.

Test controls. Now everything feels like it is in the right place!
