Brief Description:  Adjust Ailerons, Misc Tasks

1600 - 1824

Today I began by adjusting the ailerons to center. Using the center jig, I determined that the left aileron was set correctly. I proceeded to adjust the right aileron by removing the pushrod from the bell crank. It required shortening the pushrod by three turns on the rod end bearing. The center point was again verified, and the pushrod retaining bolt was reinstalled with a new nyloc nut and torqued.

Next, I addressed the scraping noise that was occuring during aileron movement. The noise was due to the springs from the aileron trim dragging on the pushrod. I removed the access panel that has the trim servo mounted to it. There was no damage to the pushrod and the springs were attached such that no ends were contacting the pushrod. The coils of the springs were, however, rubbing on the pushrod. The solution was to install a piece of UHMW tape on the pushrod. This provides abrasion resistance and a smooth surface between the spring coils and the pushrod. Note that the springs were only dragging at the limit of the ailreon travel.

The pushrod was cleaned and self adhesive UHMW tape was applied.

The access panel was reinstalled and full range of motion verified. No rubbing or scraping sounds were noted and aileron actuation was very smooth.

Next, I removed and replaced the steel cap screws securing the landing lights with stainless hardware.

The last task today was to remove and replace the cap screws holding the governor cable mount to the governor. I decided to repllace all 6 cap screws with drilled head cap screws to facilitate safety wire installation. The screws were removed one at a time and replaced with new hardware. Blue loctite was applied to the threads. Once all srcews were replaced, they were safety wired in pairs using 025 SS wire.

I decided to test fit the interior handle rack cover. It will need some minor modifications to fit properly.
