Brief Description:  Install Charge/Jump Ports in Baggage Bulkhead

1800 - 2012

Today I completed the installation of the charge/jump ports in the baggage bulkhead.

The port mount required several spacers and two skybolt receptacles. These were fabricated using standard techniques. The mount was then temporarily assembled to verify fit.

The mount was then disassebmled, deburred, and smoothed.

The mount was the riveted together and the skybolt receptacles were installed.

Next, the mount was secured to the battery mount plate using previously installed nut plates. One of the screws was replaced with a NAS bolt due to limited access. The NAS bolt has a hex head as well as phillips socket. I poted to secure the bottom mount plate to the bulkhead structre with 6-32 hardware to facilitate future disassembly, if required.

The bulkhead was then drilled to expose the port face. Because these ports will be permanently connected to the batteries, the ports will remain powered at all times. To protect the ports from dirt and inadvertant shorts, a cover was fabricated. The cover is secured with two skybolt fasteners. This will provide immediate, easy access to the ports, if required.

The wiring from the ports was provided, and recommended by EarthX. These cables are rated for 400 amp transients and can be used with a charger or jump pack. The cables are also fused for overcurrent protection.

The cover was prepared and primed.
