Brief Description:  Install Baggage Area Lights

1600 - 1842

Today I finished installation of the baggage area lighting.

Installed a momentary NC switch in baggage door frame.

Fabricated a doubler plate for the switch mount from 032 sheet.

Soldered extension wires to both switches.

Installed switches in proper locations.

Completed wiring of the switches.

The wiring consists of a DPST pushbutton switch and a SPST momentary NC switch. The button located in the seatback support is an LED illuminated switch. The objective of the wiring was to provide a lighted switch such that in the dark, it would be easy to locate. The challenge was to disable the switch when the baggage door was closed. A simple solution was a momentary push button in the door frame that is normally closed. When the door is closed, the frame switch removes the ground from the lighted switch. Opening the baggage door returns the switch to the closed position, providing a ground for the LED in the lighted switch. The blue LED then illuminates, making it easy to locate in the dark. Closing the door removes the ground and turns the LED off.

System was tested and performs as expected.
