Brief Description:  Install Garmin GEA 24 Harness

After discussing GEA24 discrete inputs with SteinAir, I decided to fabricate a wiring pigtail to allow the use of 4 used GP inputs on the GEA24. Three of these inputs were originally for the flap, aileron, and elevator trim position but, due to the VPX, they were not used.

The G3X can use these General Purpose inputs as discrete inputs, so the are being repurposed. I decided to terminate the pigtail using a 4 place Deutsch connector for easy access to the inputs.

The challenge wiring these GP inputs was that a 5K pull-up resistor must be placed between the discrete pin and the GP +12v pin on the GEA 24 connector. A wire was spliced to each of the discrete pin wires, soldered, and protected with heat shrink. The single wires were then terminated with the appropriate D-sub female sockets.

The shield was extended using a piece of 22 AWG wire.

Next, the Deutsch connector was attached using standard techniques.

I need to talk to SteinAir to verify the specific resistors to use. Once this is known, the pigtail will be installed in the GEA24 connector.
