Brief Description: QB Wings Design and Fabricate Adjustable HID Light
1124 - 1442
Decided to make a deviation from the Duckworks HID lights installation. I wanted to be able to easily, and more importantly, precisely aim the HID bulbs. I designed and fabricated a separate backing plate for the reflector from 040 2024T3 sheet. This backing plate will be attached to the original mount using four 8-32 cap screws, and is supported by four compression springs. This arrangement will move the reflector forward approximately 1/2" but will allow repeatable precision adjustments without loosening the entire mount.
Marked layout on 040 sheet.
Shear to size and smooth all edges with bench sander and s/b wheel.
Cut reflector hole using drill press and hole saw.
Smooth cut edge using bench sander and s/b wheel.
Using corner holes in original mount, match drill new back plate and original mount for adjustment screws.
Match drill backplate for retainer plate screws.
Match drill back plate for 10-32 plate nuts using cleco and drill technique.
Machine c-sink backplate for AN426 rivets.
Using brake, bent 3/8" stiffeners in edge of backplate.
Clean backplate with acetone,2x. Also clean wing box J channel long, 2x.
