Brief Description:  Install Cowling

1200 - 1530

After talking with Bryan at showplanes, I have decided to push forward with fitting the plenums.

Install lower cowling.

Trial fit the plenums. The idea is to get the center plenum into position such that there is roughly 1/2" clearance between it and the lower cowl, while facilitating fitment of the side plenums. This involved installation and removel of the cowl several times. Previously, I fabricated a properly sized fiberglass tube to use as a plenum extension as the EFII throttle body is shorter than a standard fuel servo.

Once the location providing the best overall fit was determined, the cowl was removed and the extension, joiner and plenum were marked.

Removed the plenum and extension from the throttle body.

Roughed all bonding surfaces in preparation for epoxy.

Cleaned all surfaces.

Installed the temporary joiner and extension into the center plenum. These pieces were positioned based on the previous index marks.

Epoxy/flox/cabo was mixed to fill the small gap between the extension and plenum.

Next, 3 layers of 9 ounce f/g was saturated and wrapped around the extension/plenum joint. Air bubbles were removed and glass was worked until flat.
