Brief Description:  Wheel Pant Fabrication

1642 - 1912

Fabricate wheel pant jig per plans.

Locate and mark vertical line on aft end of fairings. This was accomplished using a small length of 3/4 x 3/4 angle. I laid the angle over the ronded end of the fairing, centered it, and marked the vertex of the angle on the fairing. Connecting the two points yielded the line.

The plans show a nice flate surface to measure on...not the case.

Next, I located the center of the fairing end by laying a tongue depressor on each side of the fairing, thus extending the top and bottom surface. I then measured the distance between the depressors and marked the fairing half way.

The forward part of the fairing actually has an edge to it. Running a piece of s/p across the perceived seam yielded a straight line. This line was marked for reference.

The fairing was placed in the holding jig and plumbed per plans using a framing square. The open end was measured and a centerline was marked per plans.

The forward section was then attached and plumbed using a framing square reference the previously marked line. The centerline was then transfered to the forward section.

There is no reference to how the forward section is supposed to line up but this method made the most sense.
