Brief Description:  Install Instrument Panel

1500 - 1842

I decided to use the DB15 extension for the GDL51R to facilitate a better cable routing. This required modifying the extension from 8" to about 4".

Disassemble one DB15 connector and unpin the wires. Shorten all wires and reinstall crimp pins.

Reassemble DB15 connector.

Route and connect GDL51R wiring, tie wrap as necessary.

Next, I located a hole in the right fuselage side to pass wing wiring trhough. The hole was enlarged and a rubber grommet installed.

I then routed the roll servo wiring in the wing conduit. This required removing the DB15 connector, so it was unpinned. Unfortunately, theaileron trim motor wires were too short to use. Instead of splicing these wires, I decided to use a longer length of wire from the servo end DB15. Sooo...

I removed the wiring from the wing conduit.

Disassemble the DB15 connector and unpin the respective wires.

I then installed new pins on a longer length of wire and soldered the shield termination wire.

Heat shrink was applied over the shield solder joint.

The connector was then repinned with the new wires and reassembled.

The wires were then routed through the wing conduit and the DB15 connected secured to the roll servo.

The DB15 connector was then reinstalled on the fuselage side of the roll serov wiring.

Tomorrow, I will cut the roll sero wiring, route it from the instrument panel to the wing root. An 8 pin Deutsch connector will then be installed on the wing root ends.
