Brief Description:  Install Instrument Panel

1454 - 1824

Continue with instrument panel install.

Final location for the CO detector was determined. I decided to mount it vertically behind the aluminum instrument panel support using a piece of 063 x .75 angle. This is a central location and is in free air. As it is behind the aluminum support panel, it does not interfere with any other piece of equipment. The bracket was fabricated with nut plates using standard techniques. Thebracket was designed such that the CO detector can be easily removed when necessary by removing the left GDU.

Once the bracket was complete, it was clamped to the panel support and the panel support match drilled. All holes were deburred, and machine countersunk where necessary.

The bracket was then riveted to the panel support using AN426-4 rivets.

The CO detector was then mounted using 6-32 hardware.

To make maintnenance easier, I added a Deutsch connector to the CO detector wiring. This facilitates easy removal of the CO detector and associated wiring.

Next, I decided to remove the VPX mounting angles and trim the vertical flange by about 3/32". This allowed me to replace the case mounting hardware in the VPX. The angles were cut with a bandsaw and finished with a vixen file and S/B wheel.

I then began installation of the #6 cable that powers the VPX. This cable attaches directly to the firewall power post. Using the hydraulic crimper, I installed a #6 x 3/8" lug on the cable and then finished it with double wall heat shrink. The cable was then installed on the power post.
