Finish removing honeycomb layer for split line. Once the layer was removed, all areas were sanded smooth usin a Fein multi tool and 80 grit s/p. The channel created for the skybolt brakets provides a smooth surface for additional layers of fiberglass..

A 24" piece of 3" wide 9 ounce fiberglass tape was cut.

Two pieces of 8 ounce fibeglass cloth were cut to 4 1/2" x 24".

The three pieces of cloth were laid on a piece of plastic garbage bag such that the bag could be folded over. Epoxy was mixed and applied to the cloth. The plastic bag was then folded over the top of the f/g cloth. A slotted epoxy roller was then used to wet the cloth. Excess resin was pushed to the ends and not used. Once the glass cloth was wet, the plastic bag was carefully opened.

A very light coat of resin was applied to the cowl channel.

The three inch tape was applied to the channel first and smoothed into place. This was followed by the othe two pieces of cloth which overlapped the 3" tape. Iproceeded to work the cloth into the corners and flats, removing air bubbles. Once I was satisfied with the cloth, I carefully installed the lower cowl and upper cowl on the fuselage. This should allow the glass in the channel to cure in the exact position it will be with the cowl installed.

Tomorrow will tell the tale...
