I decided to rewire the discrete inputs that I had previously terminated. After speaking with Garmin, the serial data from the VPX will control the elevator, aileron, and flap indicators...as long as those GP inputs are selected to something else or none. I therefore rewired the GP , GP 2, and GP 5 inputs for an active low by using a small 5k resistor pack pweredf from pin 50.

The wiring was completed and the two battery fault inputs were connected. The system was powered, configured, and tested.

All operations were as expected and normal.

I then terminated the two spare wires from the recog cable with PIDG connectors for future use.

Finally, I installed a piece of 1/64" silicone sheet to the charge/jump port cover. This sheet will add protection from an unintentional short when the connectors are powered.
