I finished the access panels today. Throughout the day, the panels were primed, painted, and clear coated. All that remains is to install the skybolt fasteners.
In between painting, I began fabricating a battery retainer. As I will have two batteries, the standard retainer will not work. Time was spent finalizing the retainer design.
With a final design in mind, I began fabricating. I am using the original retainer. I fabricated and added a tee channel to the retainer. This will hold the batteries in place vertically and provide 1/8" space between batteries. The lower battery box was designed to allow a 1/8" silicone barrier between the box and the batteries. The silicone was cut from excess baffle material and will provide a cushion to the batteries.
I originally thought that the tee channel on top would be satisfactory to retain the batteries, however, once mounted, I became concerned about the batteries moving laterally and sliding out from under the tee.
The solution was to fabricate a cross channel from 040 sheet. When complete, the cross channel will prevent the batteries from moving laterally.
