Brief Description:  Install Instrument Panel

1600 - 1842

Today I installed the center panel insert.

First, a piece of 063 x 3/4 angle was prepared for reinforcement of the subpanel opening. The angle was drilled for LP4 rivets. The sub panel was then match drilled. All holes were deburred.

The angle was then riveted to the sub panel using LP4 rivets.

The center insert was then installed, initially with clecos. Once the fit was verified, 6-32 x 1/2 Torx screws were installed. Nylon washers were used to protect the CF panel.

The previously made rack support was then installed. The support had to have minor modifications to provide adequate clearance for the VPX but was easily accomplished. The support was then secured to the sub panel and radio racks using appropriate hardware.

The harness branches were then secured using Adel clamps on the left side.

The CO detector test switch was installed.

The flap switch and label was installed.

The static line was connected to the alternate static source switch.

I then started work on the pitot line that connects to the G5. The Plastic line was not flexible enough to yield a neat installation, so I used 1/4" 5052 aluminum. I fabricated the aluminum to clear all obstacles and provide a relatively straight final run to the G5. The short length of plastic line just prior to the G5 will facilitate ease of installation and removal of the instrument.

The EFII controller ethernet cables were then bundled and routed.

The start button switch wiring was connected using the installed Deutsch connectors.
