Brief Description:  Install Overhead Console Wiring

1630 - 1748

Today's project was to apply the CF veneer to the overhead console access panels. The veneer was sourced from Dragon Plate and it is the Twill weave pattern, glossy finish, with 3m adhesive on the back. This is the same product that SteinAir uses for the instrument panel overlays. It isn't cheap but the finish is flawless...

The veneer was arranged so that the pattern matched between the two panels and marked. I opted to allow about 3/16" around the perimeter. The rough size was cut with scissors.

Next, the panel surfaces were thoroughly cleaned. The paper was then removed from the adhesive and the panels were positioned on the adhesive side of the veneer. The veneer was then burnished with a felt covered squeegie, and rolled with a length of 2" aluminum rod.

I then match drilled all the holes using the panel as a guide. The edges were then finished using belt, disc, and hand sanding block. The veneer was sanded flush with the panel edge. At this point, the protective vinyl was removed from the CF and the edges finished with 320 s/p.

They turned out beautiful.
