Brief Description:  Install Baggae Compartment Lights, Seal Windshield

1500 - 1824

I have not been able to work on the project lately due to work obligations but I had some time today.

I installed two LED lights in the rear seat support to illuminate the baggage area. The lights are constructed from aluminum an are well made, $30 for a 4 pack from amazon. The lights required, unfortunately, a 2 1/4" hole for mounting. The holes in the rear seat support are just 2", so I decided to back mount the lights instead of increasing the holes size. This required drilling two holes in each light flange, locating the support hole centerline and match drilling the support for LP-4 rivets.

Standard techniques were used to accomplish this.

The lights wer the fed through the open end of the seat back support, positioned, and riveted in place with LP-4 blind rivets. The installation is neat and there is nothing protruding into the baggage area to interfere with loading baggage.

The lights were then tested in the darkened workshop...they provide plenty of light. I will use the other two for dome lights.

I plan on installing a switch in the seat bak support to allow control of these lights from the baggage door.

Next I finish sealed the windshield fairing with AC 251 B sealant. The fairing was previously masked. A thin bead of sealant was applied and forced into any voids using a finger and nitrile glove. Once this was accomplished, the masking tapes were removed. This process left a very clean edge on the sealant with very little excess on the windshield or fuselage.
