The blank aluminum knob arrived from McMaster today.
I chucked it in the lathe and center drilled the face.
Using a 1/2" face mill, I spot faced the front side of the knob to accept a stop nut. This nut will prevent the knob from becoming unscrewed unintentionally.
Next, I center drilled the knob with a #21 drill in preparation for tapping.
