Brief Description:  Install Throttle, Prop Cables

1506 - 2006

Assemble throttle cable mount for the engine side using AN hardware.

Install mount on cold air induction housing.

Install throttle cable, verify fit and operation.

Install cable support Adel clamps at lower engine mount tube.

It was here that I realized that I had neglected to install the nut for the firewall pass through onto the cable, sooo, I had to disassemble the installed throttle cable, install the nut, and reinstall the cable.

Install spherical bushing in pass through, tighten nut.

Install and adjust clevis on cabin side of cable. Tighten all nuts, install clevis pin.

Verify fit and operation.

Next I began to install the prop governor cable. The stock cable length worked fine.

A 5/8" hole was drilled in the aft baffle for the cable. I grommet was installed.

I had to fabricate a new 90 degree cable bracket to ensure adequate clearance of the cable on the cylinder and to allow for unrestricted motion of the cable.

The prop governor control arm was reclocked to an optimum angle.

Install rod end bearing on governor arm.

Install clevis and pin on quadrant end.

Verify fit and operation. An issue was discovered immediately. The prop governor arm required only 1 1/2" of travel, while the quadrant provided 2 1/8". This had the result of the prop lever only moving about 70% it's total movet in the quadrant. The solution was to drill an additional hole in the quadrant lever arm closer to the pivot. This reduced the mechanical advantage and resulted in more travel being required at the quadrant lever.

All nuts were tightened, clevis installed and adjusted, and clevis pin installed.

The firewall pass through nut was tighetened around the spherical bushing, as this time it was installed first.

I made an Adel clamp mount from a piece of 080 sheet and secured it to the corner of the coil pack mount. An Adel was then put on the cable and attached to the mount to support the cable at this point.

Fit and operation was verified. Full range of moti
