Brief Description:  Install Cowling

1236 - 1406 1512 - 1612

Install nutserts for the lower aft fairing. Nutserts were required as there is no way to access these areas. I opted for aluminum, keyed nutserts to prevent twisted when installed.

These nutserts had 030 flanges so I taped the bottom of the fuselage with packing tape then applied an epoxy/cabo mix to the fairing flange and screwed it in place. The screws were waxed to prevent the epoxy from bonding them. The excess epoxy was removed. When cured, the epoxy will prove a custom flush surface for the fairing flange.

Next, I spent some time fogging the engine cylinders. Speaking to Rhonda at Barrett, she suggested fogging each cylinder with LPS3 and rotating the engine several times to distribute the product. I completed this then installed fresh dehydrator plugs.

Begin fit and installation of the induction system. I had intended on using silicone hose to connect the plenum to the throttle body but after speaking with Bryan at showplanes, I decided to fabricate a fiberglass extension to the plenum. The reasoning was that the connection provides part of the mounting structure for the plenum and the inability to positively clamp the silicone hose to the relatively thin walls of the plenum.

I am using the silicone hose to facilitate an initial fit of the induction system. I verified that tightening the clamp does indeed deform the plenum.

Install lower cowl, test fit industion plenum.

Remove 1/2" from the end of each plenum.

Verify fit.

Determine approximate length of plenum extension.
