Brief Description:  Install Pitch Trim Assembly, Wiring

1418 - 1718

Install pitch trim assembly per plans.

Attach DB-9 connector, secure thumbscrew retainers with blue loctite.

Drill and debur holes in J stiffeners per Vans electrical plans.

Drill and debur hole in rudder post for tail position/strobe light wiring.

Install 1/2" long sections of silicone tubing on wiring. These short sections of tubing will prevent chafing from the tie wraps used to secure wiring to stiffeners. The silicone pieces slide on the tefzel wiring very easily if the tefzel is wet with a small amount of water. An additional piece of tubing was used as a bushing for the wire passing through the rudder post.

Install Twisted 5 wire on right side of tailcone for trim actuator.

Install shielded 3 wire 20AWG on left side of tailcone for position/strobe/sync lights.

Slide silicone pieces to coincide with holes drilled in stiffeners.

Secure wires using tie wraps. Clip tie wrap tails.

Prepare the backseat shoulder harness cables for installation. Cables were coated with Corrosion-X using a wet rag. Cables will be allowed to dry overnight and will be installed tomorrow.

+++ Ordered Prop Today +++

Final selection was:

MTV-9-B/200-52
Nickel Leading Edges
P-457-5 Spinner for use with the ShowPlanes cowl.
Gloss Black Blades with White Tips

This prop was chosen because the Barrett Engine that I have installed makes nearly 300 HP. The MTV-12 prop that Vans recommends is rated for 300 HP MAXIMUM. After speaking with several MT dealers, who all recommend the MTV-9, I decided to go that route. The -9 is rated for up to about 450 HP so it will never be an issue. The downside to this prop is that it is 12 lbs heavier...oh, and a little more expensive.
