Brief Description: 02 - Wheel pant attach bracket

Wheel pant attach bracket
The stainless steel attach brackets are difficult to contour exactly to match the inside of the wheel pants and I am aware of at least one bracket that work hardened and broke off on another local Rocket, so I decided to match mould some carbon fibre brackets instead. They'll fit the wheel pants perfectly, but I can't risk carbon fibre under compression between the gear leg socket and axle itself, so I'll need to fit a slightly thicker stainless spacer with a flange at the front to screw on the carbon bracket instead. If it's not too thick or thin, the carbon will flex for a hundred years and not break off, so I'll lay it up over-thickness and grind away the excess until I know the pant itself wont be under aerodynamic and vibration stresses.
I started by forming an inner and outer metal mould in the brake press (pressed simultaneously), then cut it in half to make the port and starboard sides. Then I marked, trimmed, measured, marked, trimmed, measured and trimmed some more until the port mould sat just right inside the front section of the pant. I was hoping to be able to lay up the carbon with the aft section in place, but there was no way to be sure the alignment was right, so I opted to accept some potential minor shape misalignment and re-bed the flanges in structural Aerosil later if necessary.
