Brief Description:  Ground terminal

Ground terminal

I couldn't buy 3/8" brass nuts today, so I bought 10mm x 1.5 pitch instead. Unfortunately, 1.5 pitch is 17 tpi, but my lathe only cuts 16 or 18 tpi. I wasn't happy with the 16 tpi threads on the first ground terminal, so I turned another terminal and used the 18 tpi selection, which left the nuts firm, but still able to be threaded by hand. I opened out the firewall hole to 3/4" and fabricated a front washer to connect with the 3/4" face of the stud. I then added another silicone washer under the aluminium bronze washer at the front. This arrangement effectively insulates the stud from the firewall, is fireproof, vibration and corrosion resistant. Probably overkill, but I'll have faith that the resistance is low when cranking the engine in the cold !! When the time comes, I'll Scotchbrite the surfaces, apply dielectric grease and tighten these puppies ready for action.
