Brief Description:  02 - Canopy skirts

Canopy skirts

I mixed epoxy and split the batch one third to two thirds. I added Aerosil with the two thirds an put that to the side. I gave the skirts another quick going over with #60 grit, wiped them down with clean cotton rags and Xylene. I then brushed on some straight resin to wet the surface and followed up with a polished piece of 0.032" sheet as a spatula to apply a thin layer of epoxy/Aerosil mix over all the blind and solid rivets around the skirts. When this sets, I'll sand it back almost to the metal and all the depressions should be smooth. Then I'll lay up a layer of carbon fibre to strengthen the whole skirt in it's closed shape. When that's done, I'll reapply a strips of UHMW tape on the inside where the skirts meet the fuselage, before priming the outside and final sanding ready for paint.
