Brief Description:  Main battery cable

Main battery cable

Installed main battery cable run under the right fuselage sidewall longeron. I used flexible plastic hole liner to protect the cable from chafing, since gromets meant drilling large holes that I wouldn't be comfortable with. I don't like the mess and permanency of RTV for this application.

Copper Clad Aluminium (CCA) fatwire is larger in diameter than the equivalent AWG copper wire, but the extra diameter gives the same or better current-carrying capacity than the equivalent AWG with less than half the overall weight. The old oxidation and potential fire problems exhibited by straight aluminium wire are avoided by copper cladding each strand. See www.periheliondesign.com for detailed information.

The cable is 0.56" in diameter, but very light, so the load is spread quite nicely over the plastic chafe protector, but I will add some UHMW tape around the cable to prevent chafing anyway. The cable will be completely hidden under armrests and switch panels when I'm done.
