Brief Description:  02 - Flap torque tube cover

Flap torque tube cover

The first try proved the concept, but my plan was to use just two layers of carbon initially, then match mould the rest in situ in the aircraft to ensure a perfect fit. However, the trial part sits very flat on the floor as it is, so I decided to re-make the part with six layers of 200gsm twill weave carbon, trim to size and just screw it down. The ends of the torque tube and cover will be protected by the vertical panels under the arm rests.

This time I waxed two layers of ally foil (shiny side), pre-wet the carbon layers on one of them and simply laid the foil over the plastic cover on the torque tube. Once I have all the bits in this area finished, I can then measure the exact relative positions and deliver the parts to the upholsterer to make the rear plush leather seat cusions (with internal heating elements) to suit.
