Tonight I fabricated a support bracket for the gascolator out of 4130 chrome moly. I don't want the weight of the gascolator vibrating / hanging on rigid pipes, especially when it's heavier with fuel.
I was underwhelmed with the finish by the time the bracket was welded. Even at low current, welding produces so much mill scale that it's hard to keep the surface prepared for further welding. I guess that's why these parts are often brazed, but I don't have oxy & acetylene, so I have to stay with TIG.
I'll see how it tidies up and make a decision whether to start fresh using a different method.
