Brief Description:  Weldon fuel pump

Weldon fuel pump

James and I started a mounting tray and fuel lines to install the fuel pump, gascolator, 'red cube' fuel flow sensor and smoke pump. We need to make the tray and fixtures to the tunnel and bulkheads quite rigid to avoid flexing in the aluminium fuel lines, so some extra stiffeners and brackets are required when I have the positioning finalised.

I tried to keep the flow path as streamlined as possible under the circumstances (lots of elbows), but maintenance should be reasonably straightforward later on - I'll use plenty of nutplates of course. I'll also dispense with the smoke pump mounting gear - it's rather pointless with a purpose built mounting tray, and I'll mount the speed controller higher up (outside the compartment carrying fuel lines).

I used a bypass-T (normally installed with the AirFlow Performance fuel pump) as the return point for the flow divider purge valve (used to circulate cool fuel in vapour lock situations). This would normally go back to a tank, but my tanks are complete and I don't want to break the pro-seal to add another bulkhead fitting. I guess I could just tap into one of the tank feed lines so the overflow runs into the opposite tank, but that means always priming from the same side ... which is probably just fine as a matter of routine!

In due course I will add a panel and doubler in the floor to access the gascolator bowl. For now there's a small hole to allow the gascolator drain to protrude while I line things up.
