I knew the port elevator was exactly balanced without paint, so I drilled a 3/8" hole in the composite tip, added about 60g of epoxy and another 250g of lead shot. I used part of a popsicle stick on a thin wire to stopper the hole, which is held in place by a thick mix of epoxy and Aerosil. When that was firmly in place, I simply pulled the thin wire out. The last job was to elevate the tip quite a way, so the epoxy and lead shot lay up predominantly in the horn, rather than the composite tip. This will limit the strain on the fibreglass under G loading.
