Brief Description:  02 - Piston, CONROD, gudgeon & counterweight balan

Piston, CONROD, gudgeon & counterweight balancing

Weighed and matched the new pistons, new main bearings, CONRODs and gudgeon pins in sets. There is currently zero weight difference between opposing cylinders (the limit is 14g each pair), but the balance will vary slightly as carbon builds up in operation.

The counterweights help dampen harmonic waves at the tail end of the crankshaft as it is beaten to death by the pistons/CONRODs. My counterweights were exactly the same in weight - as they should be. Failing to observe the harmonic RPM limits on some engine/prop combinations can lead to the result in photo 3 - thankfully my engine/prop combination has no such limits.

I will measure the big-end bearing dimensions (while torqued up) before splitting the CONRODs for re-assembly onto the crankshaft.
