I needed some light duties tonight, so I put the Saf-Air brass oil drain on a diet (only because of the vibration moment arm in my particular application) and began re-configuring the Speedflow 826-10 fitting. I cut the taper fitting off the bottom, drilled the hole out to 14mm, tapped to 5/8 x 18 (UNF) using Boelube then ground and polished the sealing face for the crush washer. I then bored the taper thread out to 16mm to accept a new drilled stand-pipe, which I'll bond in place with JB-Weld. I am conscious of the amount of vibration on the bottom of the engine, the mass of the parts, the strength/integrity of the aluminium fitting and the significance of failure of this part !
