Brief Description:  02 - Gear leg fairings

Gear leg fairings

To bond the GLF trailing edges, I first roughed up the insides, checked my anti-twist alignment tapes, wetted out a double layer of twill weave carbon tape over an aluminium wedge, layed that up inside the GLF, added epoxy/Aerosil into the last 1/4" and then taped the sides together. After that I set the fairing on the trailing edge and put heavy gauge rulers inside to push the wedge down as far as it would go, ensuring the carbon bonded to both sides of the GLF and squeezing the excess Aerosil out of the minute trailing edge gaps. It worked out very well. Next I'll bond these to the gear legs parallel to the flats with expanding foam top and bottom, then get to work remaking the intersection fairings on the workbench (with the wheels removed to lighten them up).
