Brief Description:  Lower Gear Intersection Fairings (LGIF)

Lower Gear Intersection Fairings (LGIF)

Given the difficulty of remaking these time-consuming parts (time I don' t have), to say I'm pissed about the 1/4" larger gap under the port LGIF (compared to starboard side) would be an understatement. Turns out the body of the starboard side LGIF is thicker, but the opening is just right. The port side body is thinner, but the opening is oversize. Cutting and shutting would be much easier if the part didn't need to remain flexible enough to remove or slide it up the tapered gear leg (bigger as you go up), so I'm going to have to take a slice out of the leading edge and use a very narrow carbon doubler to match the shape of the GLF, which will be bonded and soft-riveted (yes, very small rivets given the minimal thickness of these parts) back into the leading edge of the LGIF with the gap closed to match the GLF. I can't afford the doubler to be too thick or too deep or it will seriously reduce overall flexibility. I will probably have to heat the screw tab and flex it slightly as well, but we'll see how that ends up and make a D later.
