Brief Description:  02 - Wing tip tanks

Wing tip tanks

James and I measured and drilled the holes for the outlet and vent line bulkhead fittings. We installed the outlet bulkhead fitting and finger screen first, with a dose of ProSeal under and around the nuts inside and out, which I also used to support the end of the finger screen against the tank skin to stop vibration damage. Next we installed the vent line fitting with ProSeal and twisted the ally tube up under the filler neck. Lastly, we ProSealed the flange of the cover plate and screwed it in place. Late tomorrow we'll be able to fill the tank with water and see what the capacity is! I estimate 35L, James compared it to the 20L Jerry can and says 30L and I hope we're both wrong ... 40L would be good :-)

Test result ... woohoo, the contest couldn't have been closer ... the winner by a whisker was yours truly at 32.9L, which gives approx 45 minutes extra cruising per side at 200Kts.
