Brief Description:  Port wing tip

Port wing tip

Tonight I reinforced both ends of the tank wall and the lower flange with carbon fibre and VE resin. I started by scuffing the previous layup with 60 grit paper and air blasting it clean, then wet the area with resin, applied unidirectional weave at the ends first, then overlaid with two layers of 200 gsm 2/2 twill weave. I then ran a 3" broad strip of twill weave underneath the wall into the tank floor to increase the grip area and reinforced the mounting strip with several layers forming a right angle where the wall meets the flange. I also extended the flange out slightly where the edge distance to the screw holes was less than desirable. I finished with a layer of peel ply for added support during drying, then turned the tip over and smoothed the edge flush with the flange with some resin and Aerosil mix.

When this sets I'll trim the excess, bond the upper edge and then apply a liberal fillet of flexible super-gripping ProSeal around all the inner seams.
