Brief Description:  02 - Tip tanks

Tip tanks

I traced the reverse shape of the previously cut starboard sidewall onto the uncut port side sidewall, then bandsawed and linished it down to fit neatly into the port wing tip. With that done, I traced the position and outlines for the three inspection ports that I will need access through for internal tank bonding/sealing, but I won't do that until I'm completely finished with the lighting installation (easier access). I will ultimately lay up carbon fibre to strengthen the edges where the screws penetrate the wing skin and composite into nutplates.

Now I can also start marking for the fuel drain and fuel pickup points and soon I'll know approximately how much fuel will fit in these little suckers! I'm hoping for almost an hour per side lean of peak (about 41L/hr), so I can comfortably cross the pond to NZ with enough fuel to divert to America :-)
