Brief Description:  Cleco Skins to Skeleton

I spent most of the day today assembling the horizontal stabilizer in preparation for match-drilling the skins to the skeleton. First, I finished up last night's remaining activities by match-drilling all of the remaining inspar ribs to the front spar. Then I marked the location & orientation of all of the ribs on the spar before removing the nose ribs and clecoing them into position inside the leading edges of the two horizontal stabilizer skins. Then I dropped the spar and inspar rib assembly into place and clecoed the spar to the nose ribs and the skins. Afterwards, I assembled and match-drilled the stringers, dropped them into position, and then clecoed the stringers and inspar ribs to the skins. Next, I clecoed the rear spar to the inspar ribs and the skins. While these assembly steps appeared to be relatively straightforward, it actually proved to be very time consuming for two reasons: (1) because of the care and attention to detail required to align the rivet holes for the clecos, and (2) because of the sheer number of clecos (over 500) required for both sides of the two skins. After the skins were clecoed to the skeleton assembly, I retrieved the stringer web from inventory, deburred the edges, and then clecoed that part into position inside the opening between the two sides of the horizontal stabilizer. Using a borrowed right-angle drill extension from Gordon, I then match-drilled the stringer web to the stringers and the innermost inspar ribs before calling it a night. With the horizontal stabilizer now assembled, I can begin match-drilling the skins tomorrow.
