Brief Description:  Electrical Wiring

I haven't had much to report on the site lately since the last several weekends have been spent stripping and crimping wires. The plan this weekend was to finish up the installation of the main instrument panel wiring. I had hoped to receive a connector from Lowrance for the GPS unit before Friday, but it was placed on back order so the final install of the panel will have to wait. I want to run a permanent power and ground to the portable GPS unit and save the cigarette lighter adapter for when I use the unit outside of the helicopter. The tech's at Lowrance seemed to think that the external antenna was not necessary due to the Safari's big bubble so I won't need to wire that in.

The photos below show most of the instruments and the indicator lights wired. I chose to replace the vinyl sleeves supplied with the instruments and instead used small lengths of heat shrink tubing to cover the press-on connectors on the back of the instruments. I think these provide better strain relief and don't slide around like the vinyl does. I was able to power up the LED indicator lights to check the press-to-test function and the wiring of the diodes. Much to my relief they all worked. Even though I've documented each wire run it would still be a job to pull apart the bundles to find a problem.
