Brief Description:  Mounting Instrument Pod

Once I had a template made for the center console, I wanted to mount the pod so I could accurately measure the angle where the bottom of the pod comes into contact with the top of the console. I want to make sure that this area mates up perfectly to ensure a solid mounting with no vibration. The first step was to cut/grind off the (6) factory installed mounting tabs for the "mailbox" style aluminum instrument panel. My kit came with the optional composite housing, so the tabs have to go. The next step is to determine exactly where to drill the holes for the support tubes. Spend the time necessary to get this right. If you don't , you could end up with an instrument housing that tilts to one side. In photo #3, you can see the progression of cutting aids to get the holes sized right. I've never worked with fiberglass before and was amazed about how easily it machines. In fact, you must be VERY careful when sneaking up on the final size when using the dremel tool with the sander. This tool removes a lot of material quickly.
