Brief Description:  Mounting of Electrical Components

I have replaced the circuit board shipped with the kit with a Lamar MC10. I like this unit because the components are enclosed and it has a lot of features that were not present in the circuit board. Several fixed wing kit makers now furnish this unit with their kits and a certified version is used in some Cessnas. I purchased mine from the folks at Aerosport Power but the unit is also available from Aircraft Spruce.

I spent a lot of time considering the type of circuit protection to install. I have experience as an aircraft mechanic with the traditional circuit breakers. In the end I decided to get rid of most the circuit breakers and went with fuse blocks connected by spade terminals.

My main objective in the system is reliability. In my opinion the fuse block system is simplier and has way fewer parts to eventually fail. One advantage of the fuse blocks is that the length of unprotected wires from the busses can be kept to a minimum compared to running the wire all the way to the switch console. My experience has been that if a breaker pops it popped for a reason and just resetting it isn't going to make the problem go away.

I also favor the spade terminals because their is no fastening screw to come loose in this high vibration enviroment.
