Brief Description:  Final Painting of Cabin

I picked up the finished cab today from the paint shop. I was quite impressed with the work. A friend of mine, Mark Staheli, owns "Class A Auto" in a suburb just outside of Seattle. I was confident enough in Mark's ability, that I left the design up to him. I just dropped off the cab and the paint and told him that I would prefer a "classic" look as opposed to something too far out.

Mark applied a white base coat of MIL-PRF-85285 color 17925 untinted white polyurehane over MIL-PRF-23377 Type I Epoxy Polymide primer. Over this he applied the red Emron and then had the pinstriping applied. After pinstriping, he then applied two coats of a clear Emron. He took the time to sand out the circular patterns from spinning/forming operation on the fuel tank end caps prior to topcoating. He also custom fit two spacers to fill in the spaces between the bubble and the cheek panels. This will eliminate the thick rubber moulding that many builders use to fill this gap. I will still run a thin rubber moulding along the bottom edge of the bubble to protect the bubble from chafing on the belly panels.

To complete the color scheme, I intend to paint the engine shroud, main and tail rotor transmissions and tailrotor driveshaft black. The skids have already been hard anodized and dyed black. The tail boom is white with red vertical and horizontal stabilizers. The blades will be white with yellow stripes at the ends for increased visibility.
