Brief Description:  Painting Misc. Parts

I have heard from a few builders that the weight of the ballast mounted so far forward on the right skid causes the skid to vibrate in flight. I have decided to stiffen the skid with the addition of an inner support tube. This tube was not supplied with the kit. The 4130 steel tube is approximately 36" long and has a .083" wall thickness. I sand blasted all surfaces then applied epoxy primer to both the outside diameter and the I.D. A telfon-filled polyurethane topcoat was then applied to the O.D. to build the outside dimension up to about 1.80" in diameter to make a snug fit inside the aluminum skid tube. This topcoat is very similiar in durability to powder coat but cures at a much lower temperature. Unlike powder coat, it is easily sanded. I may trim the length upon assembly, but I want the tube to extend back at least to the front strut tube. The additional weight of the insert may have to be taken into account when determining how much lead shot to charge the ballast weight with.
