Due to space limitations in the instrument pod, I decided to go with a portable GPS unit. I chose the Lowrance 2000c mainly for it's terrain/obstacle avoidance features and it's price. I also own the Airmap 300 and was impressed with it's ease of use.
The unit came with a RAM mounting system so it was easy to adapt it to mount semi-permantly to the pod. I used some structural adhesive to glue an aluminum backing plate inside the pod to add a little extra support at the bolt hole locations. I will route the power supply and remote antenna wires thru grommets just behind the mount. The display is extremely bright and easily readable even in full sunlight. The photo below was taken using the unit's backup batteries so the display is much dimmer than normal.
