Brief Description: Mock-up of Center Switch Console
I decided to take a break from sheet metal forming and make a mock-up of the switch console. I wanted to size this before I readied the instrument pod for installation. I happen to have a laser cutting machine that makes quick accurate work of cutting templates. I used foam board to create these mock-ups. Photo #2 shows the console as constructed per the kit drawings. I found this too small for my needs. I want the console wide enough to accomodate a standard instrument and tall enough to make the switches within easy reach. The stock console is just 4" tall at the rear. The re-designed console is 6" tall and a full 4" wide. I feel that the extra width will also help with the routing of electrical wires and cables. One concern with the extra width was the interference with the anti-torque pedals. From what I can tell , there should be no interference issue. Even though the drawings show the smaller console, the construction photos on the Safari's builder's web site show a larger center console
