Brief Description: Repaired bender, drilled out counterbalance, and c
Today was a busy day. I first started by repairing the hinged bender to finish bending the elevator skins to the proper angle. I used much sturdier hinges with staggered holes so that the wood wouldn't split. That worked well. I then bent the right and left elevator skins to the proper angle to give the trailing edge a much sharper edge.
I then moved on to clecoing together the outboard and counterbalance ribs after I finished their edges on the scotchbrite wheel. I then assembled these ribs with the counterbalance weight and drilled the holes through the counterbalance weight with a #12 drill bit. I needed to lubricate the drill bit while drilling in order to keep it from jamming in the lead as the lead gums up.
Next I clecoed the right elevator skin onto the understructure and then drilled out the matched holes with the #40 drill bit. I also clecoed on the control horn and drilled it out as well. Lots of pictures today on this work.
beefier hinges worked great
