Brief Description: Back riveted rudder stiffiners and rudder skeleton
Today I back riveted the stiffners onto the skins. This was cool and for the most part pretty easy. I had to dimple the stiffners and the skins first. Then I clecoed the stiffiners on followed by placing a row of 3-3 flush rivets. Then I taped them down with rivet tape, flipped the skin over and back riveted the rivets with the back rivet set using the pneumatic rivet gun. I screwed up a couple of times when I riveted off the steel back plate. Wow, bad dent in .016" aluminum. I was able to pound it back in shape though. Man that pissed me off.
I then started on the construction of the rudder skeleton. I had to construct a shim out of 0.032" Alclad aluminum. No problem, DONE. I made a mistake by dimpling the rudder skins. It may prove more difficult to clecoe it on to the skeleton to match drill. We will see. Long day today, but got alot done.
