Brief Description:  Finished Riveting Wing Skins/Firewall/Electrical

Derek 9.0 Phil 9.0

Received the flush rivets we needed from Sonex this week to finish up riveting the wing skins. After riveting the rest of the wing skins, we used some bushings Phil made out of tubing to raise the RDAC off the firewall for cooling.

Received AN Fittings and Steel Braided Hose from JEGS for the Oil and Fuel Systems.

Phil went to Napa to get #4 Gauge Battery Wire in red and black and the copper terminals needed to make our battery cables.

Made a mold out of wood to make a base for the AHRS attidtude sensor. It is required to be mounted near the center of rotation and roll of the airplane. We decided to locate it directly under the pilot seat. The lead will serve to stabalize it and we mounted it on a pair of Dr Schoal's shoe insoles to cushion it from vibration. Attached it to the floor with Velcro and 2 sided tape. You might be a redneck...

Mounted the Compass sensor on the floor behind the pilot seat. It was a similar mount process. The deal with the compass is to keep it away from any ferous metal in the airplane so we velcro'd it to the floor on the centerline of the plane.

Fabricated a "ground bus bar" thanks to the genious of David Clay. Used two pieces of copper pipe flattened out with a hammer. Easily made a beautiful bar for no money. (Thanks for the pipe, Dad!!) Used the vise to make a couple of bends so it would offset from the firewall. Put screws in them to have a way to ground devices in the plane. Made 2...one for each side of the firewall. They are mounted back to back on the firewall with brass hardware and grounded to the battery and engine for a central block to ground to without having to run wires through the firewall. See 6/24/2012 entry for pictrues.
