Brief Description:  Engine stand - Pt 1

As my build progresses, I do not want to be at a stopping point with the work on my engine and engine cowling after removing them from the fuselage as there are many little details yet to be resolved/completed with the engine and cowling that I want to complete while working other aspects of the build.

To that end, I began to modify an automotive engine stand I had with the idea of mounting the firewall, engine mount, and engine to it. By including the firewall, I can also mount the engine cowling to work out any final issues such as baffle fitment, intake air filter box, resolve cooling air flow concerns, as well as locate items onto the firewall.

I started by making a"H" frame that attached to the pivot plate on my automotive engine stand large enough for the aircraft engine mount with allowance for the firewall to fit as well. I realized the center of gravity would be extended out quite a ways so I added an extension to my automotive stand to compensate for this. (In the photo I have not yet added the swivel castor to this extension.)

The firewall and aircraft engine mount were then bolted into place.
