Brief Description: Attaching aileron and flap to right wing
A very long evening but I got a lot done. Started by riveting the flap gap fairing to the rear spar web. All went well. Once riveted, I clecoed bottom skins to begin fitting the flap and match drilling the flap hinge to the rear spar flange. First I riveted the threaded rod ends to the aileron torque fitting to bellcrank pushrod. I'm not very happy with the result and may redo the pushrods at a later time and Tig weld the rod end to the tube instead as approved by Vans. I came up with a better way to line up the aileron in neutral position than recommended. I placed a 1 x 1 aluminium angle on the outboard rib lining up the edge of the angle with the edge of the tooling holes as required and secured it using clecoed clamps. Then using a c clamp across the bottom side of the aileron and the top skin, I was able to line up the edge of the angle with the trailing edge. Once satisfied, I installed the flap and clamped it into position with trailing edge level with the aileron and with a 3/16" gap between flap and aileron. Once that was done, I match drilled the flap hinge using holes in bottom skin.
