Brief Description:  Fire Extinguisher Bracket

I spent tha majority of today working out a secure mounting bracket for my halon fire extinguisher. I decided some time ago to buy a fire extinguisher as I couldn't think of anything worse than a cockpit fire in flight and nothing at hand to deal with it.

I'd previously worked out a suitable mounting location, within easy reach, yet out of the way....... passenger side, in the rear baggage compartment. Today I worked out how to "beef up" the flimsy fuselage skin stiffener in this area, and make it solid enough to mount the extinguisher. My pictures below show what I did.

I had to make up some custom brackets, top and bottom of the skin stiffener, to secure it to the fuselage frame. Without this it was way too flimsy.

I also made up a solid angle bracket which is rivetted to the stiffener, which also has nutplates for the extinguisher bracket.

I'm sure that in the event of an accident, the weight of the extinguisher will cause deformation of the fuselage skin, but I think if I ever came to such an abrupt halt, then this would be the least of my worries. I am comfortable that the extinguisher will not tear loose and become a missile.
