Brief Description: Prepping the Cockpit
|
|
First up today I played around with the idea of fitting some fly screen material to the fresh air vents. I just don't like the standard design that provides unrestricted passage for small flying critters, straight into the cockpit. Anyway, I got some fine fibreglass insect screen from the local Mitre 10 which is flexible enough that I can place a small piece over the air scoop outlet, clamping it in place with the hose clamp that holds the air duct. I'll post some pictures when I assemble it for good.
Next up I went into spray painting mode. I recently bought a couple litres of "pewter" two-pack satin paint for the interior. I donned my respirator, mixed up a batch of paint, and sprayed all the cocpkit removable pieces. Seat backs, floor pans, baggage area side covers, centre tunnel cover etc.
Not particularly happy with my results. A lot of dust particles, plus a shitty looking finish - which I suspect is a consequence of using a cheap spray gun. After the parts dried I rubbed the worst pieces back with some wet-and-dry, ready for another attempt, another day.
I then spent a couple hours masking up the cockpit. Was going great guns, until I ran out of masking tape. The local hardware store is only open a few hours on weekends, so that put paid to my day.

I'm not a fan of painting. Such a messy chore.
